Welcome back, reader! As promised, I dug into available homeschool co-ops in northeast Ohio, and there were quite a few. For parents just beginning to explore homeschooling, a co-op is a supportive group of families, all of whom homeschool their kids. The parents in a co-op work together to provide educational activities and experiences, as well as social opportunities for the kids. Homeschooling is such a rewarding journey, but as with any journey, it's helpful to have support along the way, and northeast Ohio delivers with an array of different co-op options for its homeschool families. Let's dive in!
If, like me, you're looking to join a homeschool co-op in the coming school year, here are some options you might consider:
Heritage Oaks Christian Homeschool Co-op
Located in Wadsworth, OH, Heritage Oaks is a Christ-centered community for homeschool families. They offer academic classes, enrichment activities, and social opportunities for kids in kindergarten through 12th grade. The co-op meets once a week on Fridays, and parents are encouraged to volunteer. Activities include holiday parties, field trips, and monthly pizza lunches.
Apex Homeschool Co-op (Lorain County)
A newer co-op option, Apex is a Christ-centered co-op that provides a supportive and enriching environment for homeschool families. They offer a variety of classes for kids from kindergarten through 12th grade, including core subjects and electives. The co-op meets once a week, fostering both academic growth and social interaction among students. With its focus on Christian values, Apex Co-op aims to complement the efforts of parents through provision of additional resources and a sense of community. If you'd like to see more of what Apex does, you can check out their Facebook page, linked here.
Treehouse Berea
Treehouse Berea offers STEM-based enrichment experiences for children ages 6-14. Located in Berea, this co-op provides hands-on learning opportunities in robotics, coding, and other STEM fields. They keep class sizes small to ensure personalized attention and a fun, engaging learning environment.
Other Co-op Options in Northeast Ohio:
Akron-Canton Homeschoolers: Meet-ups and activities for homeschoolers in the Akron-Canton area.
Cuyahoga County Christian Home Educators: Offers classes and support for Christian homeschool families in Cuyahoga County.
H.O.P.E. Christian Homeschool Co-op: Located in Stow, this co-op provides a variety of classes and activities for homeschool families.
